California should watch out, because Michigan is rising up the "wine country" ranks! For the last few years, two Northern Michigan resorts have been in the national spotlight, competing to be the best wine hotels in the nation.

I’m glad to say I’ve visited both, and they’re honestly two of my favorite spots in the Mitten State!

Well, the results are in for USA Today and 10best's most recent poll. A panel of experts chose 20 standout resorts known for exceptional hospitality, vineyard views, and unique wine experiences. Then it was put up to a public vote.

Once again, these two Michigan hotels cracked the Top 5!

Both offer more than just a place to sleep. They deliver the kind of wine country escape that makes you want to slow down and stay awhile. Whether you’re planning a full weekend getaway or just dropping in for a glass, they’re two must-stops on any Northern Michigan wine tour.

And they've come in at No. 2 and No. 4 in this years ranking.

No. 2 -  Black Star Farms, Suttons Bay

Just south of Suttons Bay on the Leelanau Peninsula, Black Star Farms is a wine country retreat that checks every box: a working winery, distillery, vineyard, farm, and elegant inn all rolled into one.

When I visited, it lived up to every bit of the hype.

Guests at the inn are treated to thoughtful extras like a gourmet farm-to-table breakfast, nightly hospitality hour with wine and bites, and exclusive access to a cozy barrel room tasting. Add in forested trails, stables, and even the option to do yoga with goats, and you’ve got a full experience that’s equal parts luxurious and playful.

No. 4 - Chateau Chantal, Traverse City

Set atop a ridge on the Old Mission Peninsula, Chateau Chantal offers one of the most breathtaking views in the state—both East and West Grand Traverse Bays stretch out on either side. It feels like a little slice of Europe tucked into Northern Michigan.

The inn itself is stunning, with spacious rooms featuring whirlpool tubs, fireplaces, and private balconies. Even if you’re not staying overnight, sipping a glass of wine on the patio is a perfect way to spend an afternoon Up North.

It’s elegant, but not stuffy. The whole place gives off an inviting, peaceful energy. It's great for couples, girls’ weekends, or anyone who just wants to unwind with a beautiful view and a great pour.

And I can attest: the wine slushies are legendary!
