The bubble light on MSP patrol vehicles is as iconic as the blue paint. When there is an emergency with multiple law enforcement vehicles running their lights you and other law enforcement agencies have no trouble knowing which vehicle is a "state boy." The bubble light was recently redesigned to be a little shorter but much brighter than in the past. Hopefully, you don't get pulled over one night to have to find out what the new looks like in your rearview mirror.

Michigan State Police Add an Electric Patrol Car to the Fleet
The Michigan State Police have been began testing electric vehicles in 2022, but the first models were hybrids. Then the MSP began testing the Ford Mustang Mach-E which is a fully electric vehicle.
Looks the testing of the Mustang Mach-E was a success because a 2024 model has been put into use as a MSP State Security Operations Section. This is a part of the MSP that patrol state-owned and leased facilities.
According to WOOD, MSP Director Col. James F. Grady II said, "Our state properties security officers patrol a substantially smaller number of miles per day that our troopers and motor carrier officers, within city limits and at lower speeds." If the real life testing works out we may see more of the Mustangs Mach-Es added to the fleet.
