Rivertown Mall has played a major role in many West Michigan kid's upbringing. Whether that means getting your first ear piercing at Claire's, watching a movie at Celebration Cinema, meeting Santa Claus, or just killing time walking around the mall. However, the mall has been on the decline for the last couple of years.

The COVID-19 pandemic majorly hurt all retailers around the country, so a mall already struggling saw even larger struggles. Businesses close daily, but there may be light at the end of the tunnel for the large mall. The mall was recently bought by a new investor who is offering new ways to revive the place, including adding a trampoline park and maybe even adding residential space.

Many of the stores that used to make RiverTown Mall the "place to be" have long since vacated the premises. The former Younkers lot will see a new trampoline park move in. That was only the start, as new investor Poag Development Group looks to diverse what you can do at the mall.

One of those ideas includes turning the mall into a "mixed-use lifestyle center", that will feature "rental, restaurants, and entertainment space" and is also considering "residential and hotel uses for the property." Living in such close proximity to everything the mall has to offer would be a dream come true for 10-year-old me.

These options are still very far out in the future and may not even amount to anything tangible, but it is still promising to see a company realizing the importance of what RiverTown Crossings does for the community.

Flip Through the Vintage 1980s Sears Holiday Wish Book

Check out this Sears catalog that I got my hands on. It is the 1980 Sears Holiday Wish Book. It is nearly 500 pages of everything you wanted to circle in the book so Santa knew what you wanted for Christmas. I picked out a bunch of electronics, retro toys, hand-held games, roller skates, big wheels, clothes, and even a 1980s version of the electronic spin bike. Enjoy!
