There are laws in Grand Rapids regarding door-to-door soliciting. Door-to-door salespeople need a license to operate. Salespeople can't go in the downtown area or set up stands, they must stay in neighborhoods between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m.
If a no soliciting sign is in place, a door-to-door salesperson is supposed to move on to another house. Some are coming to the doors without soliciting signs anyway, and many are not licensed.

A raccoon problem usually involves them getting into your trash or attic. Recently, on the Grand Rapids Reddit page, some posters had fun with animal solicitors not following the laws.
Grand Rapids Reddit poster 'LocalHistorian2024' said, "Soliciting in Grand Rapids is getting out of hand! This one showed up wearing a mask. No ID badge. No clipboard, nothing. Wanted to discuss new trash cans. Didn't read the NO SOLICITING sign on the door either." The poster used a photo of a raccoon walking away down the driveway.

It is funny how people from Michigan blame Ohio, and people from Ohio blame people from Michigan for weird stuff that happens in both states.

You may want to rethink that because raccoons are known to carry rabies, so be careful with that belly rub.
