11 Michigan Horror Shorts Set to Haunt Wealthy Theatre
Michigan-made horror is about to take center stage in Grand Rapids, and it’s happening at one of the city’s most beloved venues.
On October 22, Wealthy Theatre is transforming into a scream-worthy celebration of homegrown filmmaking for Open Projector Night: Halloween Edition, which is a one-night showcase featuring 11 original horror shorts that all have ties to Michigan.
Each film in the lineup comes with its own eerie connection to the state, whether it was shot in a Michigan town, features local actors, or was produced by Michigan-based filmmakers. From creepy thrillers to psychological chillers, the 70-minute event will spotlight the kind of creativity that makes Michigan’s independent film scene so hauntingly special.
It’s not hard to see why horror thrives here. Between the fog rolling off Lake Michigan, the shadowy forests, and those long, dark fall nights, this state practically builds its own horror movie set every October.
You can feel that energy reflected in every local production, eerie yet familiar, like a ghost story that could happen just down your street.
Open Projector Night: Halloween Edition kicks off at 7 pm. at Wealthy Theatre, and tickets are $10 for the general public and $8 for students or Wealthy Theatre members. And as a bonus, a portion of ticket sales will go directly back to the featured filmmakers. Which means you’re not just watching local horror, you’re also helping it grow.
If you’re looking for something different to do this spooky season that celebrates creativity, community, and a little local fright, this might be the perfect night out.
