The Number One Grocery Store in America Will Likely Never Be in Michigan
I've personally never stepped foot in one of these grocery stores, but I have my parents smuggle me back tea from there every year when they travel back home after spending the winter down south.
After learning so much about it, it's sad to realize that we'll probably never have one of these stores in Michigan.

Sure, we're Michigan, and we're home to one of the greatest grocery stores on the planet - Meijer. We're also home to SpartanNash which operates stores like Family Fare and D&W. And people were stoked when Trader Joe's and Whole Foods starting moving into the Mitten State.

Business Wire recently announced the results of the latest dunnhumby RPI Index study that revealed the top grocery stores across the country.
Lucky for us, we have a few of the favorites here in Michigan - Kroger, Costco, Trader Joe's, Walmart, and Meijer.

But the grocery store that tops the list is, surprisingly, one that can only be found in one state (and Mexico) - Texas' H-E-B.
What Makes H-E-B So Great?
To be fair, while an H-E-B in Michigan would likely be popular at first just due to the novelty, it likely wouldn't thrive here like it does in Texas.
Why? Because H-E-B proudly states that it prides itself on "outfitting Texas families with all they need for a Texas lifestyle." Michigan is a lot of things, but we ain't Texas.
The store carries hundreds of Texas-made products, sells everything you can think of in the shape of Texas, and plays into Texans' love for their state.
Sure, that could be recreated here in Michigan - but in a lot of ways Meijer already does that, so why even try?
No matter the store, grocery prices aren't what they used to be - here's a look at how much folks are spending on groceries in each state.
