I want to start by saying that I personally think credit scores are the dumbest thing ever.

I, like many others, got a credit card right out of high school.

My parents never talked to me about credit cards and how easy it is to get into a hole of debt that you can never get out of by simply making the minimum payments.

After seeing them struggle with debt and their finances, I decided that I didn't want to follow them down that same dangerous road.

So, I paid off my credit cards, closed the accounts and cut them up.

Fast forward years later, when I needed to get a new-to-me car, I went to a dealership.

When they ran my credit, the salesman and I were both a little shocked to see that I didn't have a credit score.

If you didn't know, if you haven't used some form of credit for a while, it's possible for you to no longer have a credit score.

Thankfully, my wife Lindsey had good credit, and we got a much better car loan with her as a co-signer.

However, my point is that the entire system is stupid and flawed.

If I have a lot of debt, I get rewarded with a high credit score instead of being rewarded for actually having the money saved up so that I don't have to go into debt to buy something.

When it comes to having the best average credit score in Michigan the city that is at the top is Grand Rapids.

This is according to a study by Wallet Hub that said the average credit score in Grand Rapids is 627 which puts us in the "Fair" category.

Detroit was 2nd in the state with an average credit score of 556 which puts the city in the "Poor" category.
