However, after a trade with her father, she ended up with a Michigan Lottery scratch-off ticket that would change her life.

The ticket in question was a Detroit Lions instant game scratch-off, purchased by Hickox's cousin specifically for the gift exchange.

During the event, Hickox's father won the ticket but wanted to reclaim his original gift (the flashlight), leading to their agreement to swap gifts.

On Christmas Day—coincidentally also her birthday—Hickox scratched off the ticket and believed she had won $50,000.

However, upon checking the Michigan Lottery app for confirmation, she was astonished to discover that she had actually won $500,000.

Hickox described her initial disbelief:

"I was speechless! I couldn't comprehend that I'd just won $500,000!".

With her newfound wealth, Hickox has plans to purchase a new car and invest some of her winnings.

Additionally, she intends to share her good fortune with her parents and the cousin who originally bought the winning ticket.
