Why is the Parking Structure at Rivertown Mall a Wavy Nightmare?
"No really, what's wrong with this parking structure?" is probably one of the first questions I asked my now husband when I first visited West Michigan nearly two years ago.
He shrugged, and told me "I don't really know. It's weird, right?" and we walked inside without thinking twice. But, apparently I'm not the only person in West Michigan wondering what the big deal is with this architectural nightmare.
It may not seem bad from a distance, or even if you check google maps:
But, it's a noticeable problem when you're driving over it. So, I guess it was inevitable we started to ask questions. Evan Kay wrote on Grand Rapids Informed, asking what was going on in Grandville, and a few people came up with some possible reasons why...
This response from Tehera was the one I assumed off the bat. Speed bumps would be weird to put in the middle of a parking lot, so I figured that maybe they just made it lumpy to slow us all down.
But not everyone had as serious of answers...
While not likely, Paul made me snort with this hilarious visual for why this might be.
But the supposed real reason? It's slightly more worrisome than you'd think...
So wait, where is Shrek then?! Is he shopping for a deal at Barnes & Noble?! Okay, but seriously... It's not the only thing built on that land.
So if you see the castle doing the wave, maybe mind your own business.
Some people also reminisced about the olden year of when it was first flat.
So, while we don't have an official answer, sinking into the swamp seems to be the most accepted one. Be careful out there, you don't want to run into any ogres!
