
Special SNAP Benefit Changes Affecting Vulnerable Thousands In Michigan!
Every year in October the federal government makes cost of living adjustments to a program created to help vulnerable individuals and families.
This past October was no different as changes were made to the SNAP program.

SNAP stands for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, and provides benefits for food, not only for an individual but families in need.
So many low income people and families in Michigan rely on the SNAP program to simply put food on the table.
Our sister station, WKFR 103.3 reported that through the program they have access to healthy foods each month.
Specific SNAP maximum allotments, deductions, and income eligibility change each year in line with the beginning of the fiscal year, which began October 1. And, there were some big changes that families will notice this year, 2025.

As you can see the income limits have been increased to help vulnerable families.
There is, however, one "fly in the ointment," that may jeopardize Michigan receiving federal funds for the program.
Michigan is among 48 states to receive stern warnings from the federal Department of Agriculture over slow and inaccurate administration of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program – SNAP, Michigan State School of Journalism reports.
U.S. Department of Agriculture Secretary Thomas Vilsack said in a letter to Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, “I urge you to prioritize these concerns and take appropriate steps to make sure that your state has (acceptable rates). Americans in need should have access to essential benefits without unnecessary delays and mistakes."
