Shoplifting is a huge problem. We certainly are not immune to it here in Michigan. And I think the most amazing statistic is that more than one out of five people have shoplifted. That is stunning!

Grocery stores and department stores are huge targets for theft. And yes, okay when you were a kid you might have thought it was exciting to see if you could get away with it, but come on, as an adult?

I'll pick on one giant retailer, Target. Theft is huge for them. In fact if you see a police car in front of a Target store you can bet it's because of shoplifting. Sad!

WHAT ARE PEOPLE "LIFTING" FROM TARGET?

It's pretty simple because you have to be able to hide something so it has to be fairly small. You're not walking out of the store with a 65-inch TV under your coat.

So, here are the top 10 items stolen from a Target store according to the website Finance Buzz.com!

1. Toys.

As with many shoplifted items, smaller and more expensive toys tend to get lifted, as well as high-demand items.

2. Razor blades

The packages tend to be small, making them easy to carry out while also being more expensive to replace dull blades.

3. Electronics

There are smaller items like video games or earbuds that are easier to grab and still get a high rate of return on the secondary market.

4. Meat

Meat is an expensive item, especially specific cuts of meat. So, it can be tempting to grab some meat from the grocery section and easily carry it out of the store.

5. Printer Ink

A little printer ink cartridge can cost up to $34.99 , so grabbing one makes it a good item for shoplifters to aim for.

6. Cosmetics

Things like lipstick and mascara are easy to take from the shelves and pockets without much notice compared to larger or more expensive items.

7. Baby formula

Baby formula can be expensive, and parents may not have the cash to pay for it, leading to the product disappearing from shelves.

8. Socks

Socks are a staple when you're getting dressed every day — and they're also small enough to carry out of a store.

9. Accessories

Accessories can really make an outfit stand out with things like belts, purses, and watches. That also may be why accessories are one of the most popular items with shoplifters.

10. Skincare

Cosmetics aren't the only popular item in the beauty section.

Skincare items, including cleansers, make-up removers, and rejuvenating serums, also get taken by shoplifters.

Shoplifting is a sorry fact of life. Let's hope you're not one of them.
