Yes, There Are Roads in Michigan That Totally Close to Traffic Every Winter
When you are out and driving the roads of Michigan you generally expect to be able to get from here to there. And unless there's road construction, you can expect those roads to be open and available to you.
But there are certain roads that close totally every year when winter rolls around.

These roads aren't just rural two-tracks that no nowhere. In some places there are important regional roads. Seasonally closed roads are common in the mountain west, but less so in Michigan. But they do exist.
The first, and perhaps best know road that closes in winter is H-58, a county road between Munising and Grand Marais on the shore of Lake Superior.
The highway runs 68 miles in Alger and Luce counties. There's a large portion of the roadway west of Grand Marias and east of the National Lakeshore that is not plowed in the winter. The roadway that is enjoyed by cars, trucks and cycles in the summer becomes a pathway for snow machines in winter. Here's what H-58 looks like when it's not plowed:

Another fair weather road appears in the western Upper Peninsula. The former M-107 which runs from M-68 at Silver City to the Lake of the Clouds in the Porcupine Mountains. The 9.5 mile roadway also closes each winter. In 2022 the area had received so much snow, the road was not opened for traffic by mid April. MLive at the time reported that the road was closed by impassable snow well after the winter season ended.
Elsewhere within the Porcupine Mountains, Boundary Road which rings the state park to the south also closes each winter.
There are, without hyperbole, hundreds of roads elsewhere across the state that are not plowed by the local county. State law allows for Seasonal Roads, roads that can be declared closed annually between November and April and do not have to be maintained by the country road commission.
