What Happened to the Drone Show at World of Winter 2025? Find Out Here

With the new year approaching, it is time for Grand Rapids' best winter festival.

World Of Winter 2025 is right around the corner, however, there has been a slight change to the lineup.

Presented by Downtown Grand Rapids Inc., World of Winter is back for the year of 2025!

From January 10th until March 2, 2025, you can expect different winter-themed activities, including public art installations, light displays, ice sculptures, and outdoor performances.

If you are like me and need a reason to leave the house during the harsh winter months, this is free outdoor festival is perfect for you.

Plus, thousands of people come to Grand Rapids every year to see the new lights and installations that World of Winter is known for.

Here are a few events to get excited for:

• Guided Walking Tours
• Hungry Hungry Hippo Tournament
• Ice Piano Performances
• Love on Ice
• Circus Wonderland
• Silent Disco
• Winter's a DRAG
• Paint the Park and more!

While these events (and more) will be happening during World of Winter 2025, there is one fan favorite that you will not see this year.

World of Winter 2025 - Drone Show

Unfortunately, on December 30, 2024, World of Winter and Downtown Grand Rapids Inc., announced that the Starry Night Drone shows are cancelled!

Is anyone sad about this news like I am? I was genuinely very excited to see the upcoming drone show.

According to the announcement, the Starry Night Drone show was cancelled for multiple reasons.

"Due to recent concerns and safety issues related to drone flights and shows, the Starry Night drone shows for World of Winter have been cancelled."

It seems like the uptick of drone-related drama in the news may be the reason for this cancellation.

However, while the drone show is cancelled, they will "be hosting a different Opening Celebration to kick off World of Winter."

At the time of publication, the new Opening Celebration has not been announced. However, the World of Winter Opening Celebration is taking place on January 11th, 2025 from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM at 555 Monroe Ave.
